Problem/Challenge Statement

We identified several key challenges faced by small organizations, such as local youth football clubs. One major issue was managing yearly fee collection, including tracking payments, monitoring the collection process, and sending automated reminders.

Another challenge we observed was group payment management—for instance, during vacations with friends and family. Expenses like food, drinks, and accommodation are often split among multiple people, making it difficult to track who owes what and settle payments efficiently.

Solution

We developed a payment collection solution that enables both individuals and organizations to efficiently manage payment requests. The platform features automated payment reminders, payment circles for friends and family to track shared expenses, and later expanded to include event management functionality, allowing users to handle payments while also managing bib numbers and wave assignments for events.

Results

Early in our rollout, we quickly identified that event management functionality was gaining the most traction. Recognizing its potential for monetization, we shifted our focus to expanding this feature. We collaborated closely with our founding customer, Yahoo7, to refine and enhance the platform. The business was later successfully acquired by [Acquiring Company Name].

My Role

I led the product development strategy and execution, shaping the user experience and designing the user interface. I sourced and managed a team of offshore engineers, collaborating closely with them to define product requirements, which were then structured into epics and user stories to streamline delivery.
